{"id":38579,"date":"2021-12-20T16:30:51","date_gmt":"2021-12-20T15:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.luganophotodays.ch\/news\/luganoaward-2020-winners\/"},"modified":"2021-12-20T17:05:24","modified_gmt":"2021-12-20T16:05:24","slug":"luganoaward-2020-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.luganophotodays.ch\/en\/news\/luganoaward-2020-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"LuganoAward 2020 winners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">LuganoPhotoDays announces the winners of the &#8220;LuganoAward 2020&#8221;.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LuganoPhotoDays<\/strong>, the international photography festival that this year, due to the pandemic, could not be physically held, has assigned the<strong> prizes of the three categories called &#8220;LuganoAward 2020&#8221;<\/strong> worth CHF 750 each, plus what was originally called &#8220;Premio Citt\u00e0 di Lugano&#8221;, now &#8220;<strong>Lugano Award<\/strong>&#8220;, worth CHF 3,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners are&nbsp;<strong>Tamara Eckhardt<\/strong> with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/luganophotodays.photocontest.ch\/reportage-and-documentary-2020\/6780\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Children of Carrowbrowne<\/a> (Reportage &amp; Documentary), <strong>Alessandro Falco<\/strong> with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/luganophotodays.photocontest.ch\/wildlife-and-nature-2020\/6793\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inferno verde<\/a> (Wildlife &amp; Nature) and&nbsp;<strong>Stefano Schirato<\/strong> with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/luganophotodays.photocontest.ch\/covid-19\/6489\/view\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/luganophotodays.photocontest.ch\/covid-19\/6489\/view\">Awakenings<\/a> (IBSA Foundation \u2013 COVID19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stefano Schirato<\/strong> is also the <strong>overall winner<\/strong> of the second edition of the&nbsp;<strong>LuganoAward 2020<\/strong> (formerly Premio Citt\u00e0 di Lugano).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are <strong>over 500 total entries<\/strong> in the three categories <strong>from 45 different countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reportage &amp; Documentary<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tamara Eckhardt<\/strong> with <strong>The Children of Carrowbrowne<\/strong> triumphed in the <strong>Reportage &amp; Documentary<\/strong> section.\r\nThe jury composed of <strong>Elizabeth Krist<\/strong> (National Geographic photo editor for over 20 years), <strong>Pascal Maitre<\/strong> (National Geographic photographer) and <strong>Marco Pinna<\/strong> (photo editor for National Geographic Italia) awarded Eckhardt&#8217;s work documenting the daily life of Galway children in Ireland&#8217;s largest traveller community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wildlife &amp; Nature<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alessandro Falco<\/strong> with Inferno verde won the prize conferred by&nbsp;<strong>Javier Aznar<\/strong> (National Geographic photographer and biologist), <strong>Magdalena Herrera<\/strong> (director of photography of Geo) e <strong>Sergio Pitamitz<\/strong> (National Geographic contributing photographer).\r\nFalco recounts the fire crisis in the Amazon Rainforest, an issue rooted in Brazil&#8217;s colonial history and linked to the first European invaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IBSA Foundation \u2013 COVID-19<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, <strong>Stefano Schirato<\/strong> with <strong>Awakenings<\/strong> is the winner of the new competition &#8220;<strong>IBSA Foundation &#8211; COVID-19<\/strong>&#8221; designed to tell the story of how people have lived and continue to live through the pandemic period, which sees them both protagonists and victims of a collective unease made of doubts, uncertainties, distances and marked by the fear of physical contact in which all our humanity is revealed and acted upon.\r\nThe jury, represented by <strong>Roberto Burioni<\/strong> (professor of Microbiology and Virology), <strong>Andrea Frazzetta<\/strong> (documentary photographer) and <strong>Francesca Nava<\/strong> (journalist and documentary filmmaker) chose Schirato&#8217;s project, which recounted the awakening of patients after being intubated, when the disease can be defined as defeated. The shots were taken in Italy, more precisely in Abruzzo, but one could be anywhere on the globe affected by SARS-CoV2.\r\nThis first edition of the competition was created thanks to the <strong>support of the IBSA Foundation for Scientific Research<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overall winner LuganoAward 2020<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stefano Schirato<\/strong> is also the <strong>overall winner<\/strong> among the first classified of the three categories and who has been awarded, by the jury formed by the nine jurors of the three sections, the <strong>LuganoAward 2020<\/strong>, a recognition born in 2019 as &#8220;Premio Citt\u00e0 di Lugano&#8221; and consisting in the sum of <strong>CHF 3000.-<\/strong> in cash, <strong>offered by the City of Lugano<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LuganoPhotoDays announces the winners of the &#8220;LuganoAward 2020&#8221;.
